Maybe, but I’d still blame the thieves, doesn’t matter what you do, takes a few minutes to drag them onto a recovery truck :(

To be shipped to Ireland were they rally(crash) loads of them;)

A friend had a nice Mk1 1.3 GL that got stolen from Corby area, the police found it in Scotland 4 months latter. It was easely identified by him as it still had all the same rubbish and bits in the boot as it did when it was stolen!

That was my first thought, unfortunately some of the rally guys don’t seem as bothered as they should be about where the shells are coming from.

Get real.

Do you seriously think competitors would go to all that trouble for a rusty shit-heap when you can buy a brand new mk2 shell for £6k?

Why bother when you can steel a car with a brand new shell with LOADS of spares attached for nothing;)

The amount of filler in English mk2s, they probably do need to be steeled. The 'spares' in a road-going mk2 are useless for rallying.

Mmmmmmm £6k and have to completely rebuild a car onto it or free car?

Think about it, if your statement was correct there would be no theft whatsoever, everyone would just buy everything

Usually the main culprit innit?. If they (bloody thieves) had nowhere to unload the goods....

I blame the public mentality in general....

You got any evidence to back that up, or are you just in Billy Bullshit mode?

If this trade in stolen Escort shells coming to Ireland is so prevalent, why is this firm making money hand over fist?

https://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/FORD-ESCORT-MK2-MARK-2-BRAND-NEW-COMPLETE-SHELL-VERY-LIMITED-NUMBER-AVAILABLE-/272846943810

I'd say your stolen Escorts are much more likely staying in England, being ringed into over-priced, 'collectable', road-going RS2000s and 1600 Sports. That's where the money seems to be.

A quick look at the pic. I see a set of bucket race seats (used for rallying?) and a roll cage (used for rallying?) and possibly an uprated radiator, (I think all the spelling is correct:rolleyes:)

Calm down, I never mentioned Ireland princess, that was someone else so point your wrath at them.

As far as knowledge, I wouldn’t think it’s much different to what goes on with classic Mini shells :icon_salut:

@richy

So, imagine the logistics of being a thief. You steal a car, with the intention of breaking it for parts. Are you going to:

A)Sell it in a markeplace of 60M people, where thievery is an accepted part of life and everyone has 3 locks on their door

OR

B)Smuggle your stolen mk2 Escort across the Irish Sea - presumably in your hand luggage - to a marketplace of 5M people?

It seems much more logical that stolen Escorts are being stolen to order, in England, for the English market.

Neither of which are compliant for rallying other than at a basic level.

2 things.

1. £18,000 for a 1300 escort. fuck off.  But if that's what the owner gets paid out by his insurance, I'm pleased for him.

2. It's more than likely ended up in Ireland as they're all tinkers and thieves over there....

OK, if I had said that it was stolen and shipped to another country in a shipping container or in the back of an artic (it happens) and didn't mention Ireland would that of been OK? (I think I got all the spelling right<_<)

It still seems more logical that cars are being stolen to supply an English market which is large, local and full of geezers prepared to pay large sums for old rwd Fords.

If it was a rare Ferrari, illegal export seems more likely.

Oi now, you can say whatever you want about the welsh and that’s fine, but the tiniest suggestion of negativity against the Irish  and be very suspicious if you come home to a milk churn outside your house

It's true , when the circus comes into town for the steam fair the whole of Dorsetchestershire is on lockdown .

Load of pikeys turned up a couple of years ago on the local park, dumped their caravans and funked off (no doubt to rob peoples sheds and industrial units) , fair play to plod , they towed all the caravans onto double yellows and ticketed them for illegal parking ,

:D
